This is the third part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I and Part II before continuing.
“Sasha Leone?”
“Yeah?”
“My name is Thomas Dunbark. I’m here on behalf of the Eddie Warwick Show.”
He held out a card and Sasha instinctively backed up a step, putting both hands on the straps of her backpack. “What would the Eddie Warwick Show want with me?”
“We heard about your … well, we heard you can do certain things no one else can.”
Sasha froze. After a terror-stricken moment, she said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Thomas smiled in a manner that was probably meant to be reassuring. “There’s no need to be shy about it. If what I saw is legit-”
“What you saw?”
“Yeah. In the video.”
“What video?”
Thomas looked around him for a second, as if looking for help. “I thought you were … well, it doesn’t matter. The point is, the world needs to know what you can do. So, take my card, and give me a call when you’re ready to become rich and famous.”
Sasha took the card, but made sure to keep so far away from Thomas that she had to use just the tips of her fingers. She analyzed the card as he walked away. “Why?” she said, loud enough for him to hear from the distance to which he had receded.
He stopped and turned back to her. “‘Why’ what?”
“You said the world needs to know what I can do – not that I’m admitting I can do anything – but if I could – why would the world need to know about it?”
Thomas spread his arms out wide, as if they were surrounded by the answer. “So, we can know what’s possible. What human beings are capable of.”
“Why?”
“Why not?”
To be continued…
