This is the second part in a series, so if you haven’t done so already, you might want to read Part I before continuing.
“Whoa! Are you doing that?”
Sasha’s concentration shattered and she dropped the pen. “What?”
“That was you, wasn’t it?”
“Um, no. Of course not. What was me?”
“Don’t play dumb. I know it was you making that pen float off the desk. You were looking right at it the whole time.”
Sasha mentally kicked herself. Her mother had always told her that, above all else, she had to keep her talent a secret, and here she had completely blown it without even thinking about it.
She had thought Davis was absorbed in his studying. She should have been absorbed in hers, but her mind had wandered off and she had found herself staring at the pen without thinking about anything much. From there, it had been easy to finish emptying her mind of anything but the pen in front of her and make it do whatever she wanted. She had been amusing herself by making it write her favorite movie quotes in the air. The unfortunate consequence of emptying her mind to focus on the pen was that she had forgotten all about Davis.
“It’s a magic trick,” Sasha said. “I saw it online.”
“Can you teach me?”
“A true magician never reveals her secrets.”
“Aw, come on! I promise I won’t tell.”
“No.” Sasha opened her text book and pretended to concentrate on it until Davis finally gave up and let the matter drop. She’d have to be much more careful from now on.
To be continued…
