Short Story

Too Far: Part XIII

girl looking at her phone with woods in the background

This is the thirteenth part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI, Part VII, Part VIII, Part IX, Part X, Part XI, and Part XII before continuing.

I may not be able to get on social media, but at least I can still text my friends.

Me: I’m suspended while they “investigate my case.” I might get expelled

Madison: OMG, RU serious?

Me: As a heart attack

Sophie: Oh, no. I’m so sry

Ashley: Is there anything u can do?

Me: I don’t think so. Mom is taking me to see Addie’s parents tomorrow. I’m hoping that’ll help my image.

Ashley: Ugh. That’s rough.

Sophie: Yeah, but ur right. It’ll help your image.

Madison: Let us know if you need anything. We’re here 4u.

Me: What are people saying on sm? It’s driving me crzy that I can’t c any of it.

Ashley: Honestly, the townspeople have come out w/ their pitchforks. It’s probably 4 the best u can’t c

Madison: But there r a lot of ppl who support u2. It’s not just us. They keep reposting that awful post she made about u and calling it bullying.

Me: Good. I’m so sick of everyone acting like she’s the victim here. She’s the 1 who started it w/ that post and she’s the 1 who took those pills. Y am I getting blamed?

Ashley: Cuz ur still here. It’s easier to yell @ u than @ a dead girl

I hate that she’s right, but it’s probably true. Addie’s death has made her a martyr, and therefore can’t possibly have done anything wrong.

Instead of stewing in the unfairness of that, I let myself think about it strategically. If I can’t blame her for what happened, what are my options for dealing with this situation? I pull up the Notes app on my phone and start jotting down some ideas.

To be continued…
