Short Story

Too Far: Part II

This is the second part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I before continuing.

I’m on my way to class the next day when Ashley grabs me by the arm and drags me into a nearby bathroom. She checks all the stalls before saying, “When was the last time you checked your Instagram?”

“This morning. Why? Why are you acting paranoid?”

She answers by shoving her phone in my face. Her Instagram app is open and displaying a photo of Sabrina Carpenter crying. Superimposed on the photo are the words, “TFW you find out the friend who went to Homecoming with you was just using you.”

“What am I looking at?”

Ashley thrusts the screen closer to my face, as if that’s going to accomplish anything. “Look at who posted it. And read the description.”

Addie posted it. And the description includes a tirade against me – she even tagged me! – for being “a two faced manipulative bitch.”

Honestly, I find that kind of funny. No one can accuse Addie of not being creative in her insults.

It’s what she wrote next that has me seeing red.

“Jessica Fields can’t even get a boy to fuck her without dangling another girl in front of him. Then she has to pull a bait-and-switch so the poor guy has to settle for her.”

“She did NOT!”

“She did,” says Ashley. “I’ve already reported the post, but who knows how many people will see it before they get around to taking it down. If they agree to take it down.”

“I don’t want them to take it down. I want to destroy her.”

“What do you have in mind?”

I rip the phone from her hands, then leave a comment on Addie’s post saying she’s just jealous because Jessica is dating the hottest guy in school.

“What? I can’t say that! What will Aiden think?”

“He’ll understand once you’ve explained it’s an emergency. We need all hands on deck for this. We need to put out our own campaign saying Addie has a crush on Jake, so she’s spreading rumors to try and split us up. Make me the victim of her smear campaign.”

Ashley nods and says, “On it. Texting the others now.”

She texts them in our group chat with a screenshot of the Instagram post. Everyone immediately responds with the proper amount of shock and outrage.

I jump into the discussion.

Me: That’s perfect. Now I need you all to take everything you’ve just said here and post it on Instagram. We need to flood the internet with the truth about what a jealous bitch she is.

Fly, my pretties! Fly!
