Short Story

Penlifter: Part V

This is the fifth part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I, Part II, Part III, and Part IV before continuing.

“Mom?”

“Yeah, honey?”

“Has anyone ever found out about … you know, about what you can do?”

“You mean my special talents?”

“Yeah.”

“No. Never. I told you how important it is to keep all that a secret.”

“I know.”

“So why are you asking? Did something happen?”

“No,” Sasha answered a little too quickly.

“Sasha?”

“One time, OK? I slipped one time and now-”

“Now, what?”

Sasha mumbled something unintelligible under her breath.

“Sasha…”

“They want to put me on TV.”

“Sasha Swati Leone, do not tell me you are going to be on television!”

“Of course not! I just wanted to know if, maybe, you had ever considered the other side of things.”

“What ‘other side’? The side that wants to kill us? Or the side that wants to experiment on us in the name of so-called ‘science’?”

Sasha didn’t answer, but she couldn’t help thinking that maybe Thomas and Davis had a point. Maybe there were more than two options.

To be continued…
