Eliza was leaving rehearsal a few days later when Angela caught up with her at the doors that led from the theater to the hallway. “Hey, great job today.”
“Really? ‘Cause that’s the scene I hate the most.”
“I know, that’s why I want to tell you what a good job you did. I never would have known how much you hate her if you didn’t talk about it constantly outside of rehearsal.”
“Do I really bitch about her that much?”
“It’s OK, I don’t mind. But this is the kind of thing that comes with the territory, right? Actors have to do love scenes with people they can’t stand all the time.”
“Ugh. At least I don’t have to do a love scene with her.”
“Yeah, the school likes to pretend it’s really progressive, but in reality, I can’t imagine the board ever approving something like that. By the way, did you hear about Sara Kar refusing to renew her contract to do another season of Roach?”
“Yeah, what’s that all about?”
“Apparently she and her costar can’t stand each other.”
“What? You mean Nate Farish?”
“That’s the one.”
“How could anyone not like him? He seems like such a great guy.”
“No one gets along with everyone.”
“Yeah, but have you seen him?”
“There’s more to working with a person than their looks.”
“I don’t mean that. I mean, yeah, that too, but I mean is, haven’t you heard all the stories about what a great guy he is?”
“No. And even if I had, they’re just stories. It’s not like you can ever really know someone just from the Hollywood gossip you hear.”
“It’s not Hollywood gossip. Some friends of mine were at a convention with him and they said when he didn’t have time to get to everyone who lined up to see him, or stop and chat with a fan, he passed out cards with his signature so no one would leave empty handed. Isn’t that sweet?”
“Yeah, but it’s still just one story. Racists and homophobes do nice things on occasion, too.”
“But he’s not. He’s spoken out repeatedly in favor of gay rights. Everything he talks about online just makes me want to hang out with him more.”
“That’s because it’s all stuff he’s saying. He’s cultivating an image and you’re assuming that’s all he is.”
“Nuh uh. His other costars have also said that he’s super fun to work with. Some of them have even worked two jobs at once to get the chance to work with him again.”
“Did you just say ‘nuh uh’?”
“Whatever. My ride’s here. See you tomorrow.”
