Dunson House: Part II

dunson house

This is the second installment in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I before continuing.

Daisy stood at the front walkway as she watched her husband walk into the house he had bought. She thought of the old tradition of men carrying their brides across the threshold of their new home and shuddered. After what had happened to the previous owner of this house, Dan would have to carry her if he wanted her to ever go inside.

He turned and looked back at her from just the other side of the doorway. “Oh, come on, honey, you’re not superstitious, are you?”

Daisy didn’t budge. “Call me what you want, but that house is full of bad energy. I still can’t believe you bought it without even asking me.”

“I wanted it to be a surprise!”

Daisy had to give him that. She had certainly been surprised.

“Just think of all the money we saved! We never could have afforded this house if that poor woman hadn’t been murdered here.”

“How much did we save, exactly?”

“What?”

“How much more would it have cost us to buy this house before it was molested?”

“Molested? Honey-”

“Just answer the question!”

He stared at her for a few moments, trying to determine how serious she was. “I’d have to ask our realtor, but I’d guess at least ten grand.”

Daisy nodded slowly as she rolled her eyes over the facade of the house, memorizing that number. She wondered how much it would cost to have the house psychically cleansed.

Tentatively, she put one foot on the bottom stair. After a moment’s pause, she hauled herself up and put her other foot on the second stair. When nothing happened and she didn’t feel anything, (although, to be honest, she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to feel), she proceeded into the house at a slightly quicker pace.

Dan had already visited the house once before, so he had had a chance to think about what he wanted to go where. He tried to share his vision with his wife now, but she was too absorbed in the thought of the horrific event this house had recently seen to pay much attention to where the furniture would go.

“Where did it happen?”

“What?”

Where was she…”

“Oh. Um, in the master bedroom.”

“Then we’ll sleep in the guest bedroom.”

“But-”

“Nope. No buts. There is no way I am stepping foot in that room, much less sleeping there, until after we’ve had a psychic in here to cleanse the whole house.”

Daniel’s mouth hung open before he managed to say, “A psychic? You’re not serious.”

To be continued…
