This is the fifth part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I, Part II, Part III and Part IV before continuing.
“Hey, Kira and I were just talking about going to see the new Marvel movie on opening night this week, who’s coming with us?”
“Oo! I am!”
“Me, too.”
“Definitely.”
“Alicea?”
“Sorry. I can’t. I have plans.”
“It’s not with that creepy Sven guy is it?”
“No, it’s with the non-creepy Sven guy.”
“Ugh! Alicea I don’t know what you see in him.”
“I don’t see anything in him. I just feel sorry for him.” She hadn’t realized how pathetic that sounded until the words were out of her mouth. But she still couldn’t deny their accuracy.
“I thought you said seeing him on Wednesday was just a one-time thing.”
“It was. Or, at least I thought it was. I don’t know. I don’t know how I let him rope me into this.”
“Honey, he’s manipulating you. You have to get out of that relationship.”
“I can’t. I’m all he has here in town.”
“Yep. Classic abusive behavior. Before you know it, he’ll be driving a wedge between us and pretty soon you’ll be the one who doesn’t have anyone except him.”
“That would never happen.”
“It’s happening right now. You’re going to hang out with him instead of us tonight, and then the same thing on Saturday night, right?”
Alicea couldn’t deny it and they both knew it.
“I’m telling you he’s bad news.”
“Not Sven. He’s harmless.”
“Harmless? Do you remember how much stress he caused you in when you went to school together? Do you remember the rants I had to listen to about his insistent, stalkerish, manipulative ways? How he wouldn’t leave you alone?”
“That was years ago. He’s changed.”
“Has he?”
To be continued…
