This is the second half of a two-part story, so if you haven’t done so already, you might want to read Part I before continuing.
Ten minutes later, Ginny was standing in front of her mirror in her newly-discovered top.
Squeezing into it hadn’t been easy and it had just about convinced Ginny that this lady in blue was officially off her rocker.
But now Ginny saw what the crazy lady was talking about.
Ginny turned one way, then another, craning her neck to try to get a view of her new look from all angles. “Actually, it’s not so bad,” she said.
“Told you so.”
“So my life really is better without David.”
It could have been her imagination, but Ginny could have sworn she saw the angel hesitate. She averted her eyes, looking down at the ground and off to one side as she avoided eye contact with Ginny.
“What is it? What’s wrong?”
“You might want to check your Facebook page.”
“Why?”
“Just take a look at the profile of the guy you’re currently in a relationship with.”
Ginny grudgingly picked up her phone, wondering what she was going to see that she wouldn’t like.
At first, scrolling through his profile page, she didn’t see anything objectionable. In fact, he was pretty cute. And they looked good together!
“This is perfect. He’s the exact opposite of David.”
“Keep scrolling.”
Ginny’s brows came together as she regarded the blonde over the top of her screen.
“What do you mean by that? David treated me like shit, and when you tell me I had the chance to be with this guy instead, you make snide comments about him? You don’t even know him!” Ginny was so offended by the blonde’s tone that she failed to remember that, technically, she didn’t know him either. But she was finding herself feeling strangely protective of this hypothetical boyfriend of hers.
The blonde didn’t reply. She just pointed her wand at Ginny’s phone. Ginny was tempted to tell her visitor where she could stick her wand, but then something caught her eye.
She looked again at her phone and saw a picture of Jason and another girl Ginny didn’t recognize. They appeared to be engaged in a competition to see who could suck off the other’s face first.
“Who’s this? An ex-girlfriend?”
“Not ex.” Her voice was gentle, but the words still stung.
Ginny checked the date and time of the photo. It was taken just last night.
Ginny’s jaw dropped to her chest. The level of betrayal she felt from this man she had never actually met was staggering. “He’s cheating on me? After everything I went through with David, I still end up in this position?”
“That’s what I’m trying to tell you, Ginny,” the blonde said as she came around the foot of the bed to sit with her charge. “This isn’t after David. This is instead of David.”
“But it all ends the same way.” Ginny flopped back against her headboard. Her voice had gone from screeching to moaning.
“Yes, because without learning this lesson, you’ll never grow. As the saying goes, sometimes you have to kiss the frog to get to the prince.”
“But neither of these assholes are princes. They’re both toads.”
“Yes, but sometimes kissing a toad can help you grow into the person you were always supposed to be. As long as you realize your mistake and learn from it.”
“You’re saying it’s my fault I keep getting cheated on?”
“Like I said, you don’t ‘keep’ getting anything. Jason is in stead of David, not in addition to. You wished you had never met David, so I showed you what that would be like. Your life without him isn’t any better. But your life after him will be amazing.”
Ginny raised an eyebrow as she looked back at her visitor. “Can you show me what my life after him will look like?”
Her angel smiled. “Sorry, honey. I can show the past, the present, and alternate realities, but no one can see the future.”
“Then how do you know my life after David will be amazing?”
“I’ve looked out for you your whole life. You’ve had your ups and downs, just like everyone else, but you always land on your feet. David is just another pothole on your road of life.”
“You really think so?”
“I know so.”
Ginny looked down at the halter top she was still wearing. “Can I keep the top?”
The end.
