“Sure, the extra money would have been nice, but it would have meant I’d never get to spend any real time with you or the kids ever again.”

He had so much potential, but there he was, just sightseeing with his kids. Said he was taking some time off.

Zack didn’t move his head, but his eyes moved up sharply to look at Frank and Frank knew he had hit the sweet spot.

“Everyone I know keeps dying and leaving me their stuff! What am I supposed to do? Say, ‘Thanks for the heirloom, but I don’t want it’?

“You don’t just ‘fix up’ a concussion. Your brain needs time to heal itself, and while it does, I’m going to be here to help out.”

“Someone needs to go down there to take care of Aunt Sabrina.”
“And I supposeby ‘someone’, you mean me.”

“Being away from home and talking to other people makes me think about the different ways my brothers and I were raised.”

Call me bloodthirsty, but I was hoping for more gore in a book about a couple of axe murders.

“You won’t get away with this!”

He stopped and turned back to look at her. “Get away with what?”

His mother had never hit him. Neither had his grandmother. What do you do when an old woman hits you? You can’t hit her back.
