“We should set up a teleconference to talk about our goals and your deliverables.”
“Absolutely. How does next Monday work for you?”
“That’s Stormy Day. Our offices will be closed.”
“Stormy Day? You Americans and your holidays to celebrate everything. Just please tell me you aren’t taking a day off work to celebrate storms.”
“What? No.” Jane laughed. “Not storms. Stormy. It’s to celebrate Stormy Daniels.”
“Who?”
“The woman who finally brought down Trump by going public with the details of the affair they had and how he paid her off to influence his presidential campaign. They threw everything they had at her, but she refused to back down until he left office.”
Stephanie rolled her eyes. “Only Americans would create a national holiday to celebrate a sex scandal.”
“Hold on. This from the someone who celebrates the guy who tried and failed to blow up your government?”
“That’s completely different. That’s to celebrate the fall of a terrorist who tried destroy our system of government and kill thousands of innocent people in the process.”
“And Trump was different … how?”
Stephanie hesitated as she considered her answer. “He didn’t kill anyone in the process?”
Jane laughed. “Tell that to the Puerto Ricans.”
“Huh?”
“Never mind. The point is Stormy Daniels saved our democracy, just like the capture of Guy Fawkes saved your system of government all those centuries ago, so we have a national holiday to remember her and her bravery in the face of everything she had to face in order to bring down one of the most tyrannical leaders our country has ever had. They’re actually coming out with a biopic about her that’s getting released that weekend. I was thinking of watching it. The cast is full of really talented actors and I think it would be a great way to actually remember why we have a day off instead of just spending the day sleeping and shopping.”
“What’s wrong with sleeping and shopping?”
“Nothing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to do those things, too. I just think that, since Stormy worked so hard to free us from one of the worst presidents we’ve ever had, the least I can do is spend a couple hours actually remembering her and all the sacrifices she made so our country could remain a free country.”
“But if it’s a biopic, how accurate is it going to be? I mean are the going to gloss over the not-so-great parts of her life and romanticize other parts? I know her daughter is still around and I heard she had some things to say about her that were less than flattering.”
“Yeah, I’m sure she had her faults. We all do. That doesn’t diminish her accomplishments. Martin Luther King Jr. cheated on his wife, but no one talks about that on MLK Jr. Day.”
“You have a day to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.? Sheesh. You Americans really do have a day for celebrating everything.”
“I haven’t even told you about RBG Day yet. But we’ve gotten way off topic. So next Monday doesn’t work for us and Tuesday will probably be crazy from trying to catch up from the long weekend. How about Wednesday?”
