From Beyond the Grave: Part III

Man sitting in front of a window looking out at a sky full of clouds

This is the third part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I and Part II before continuing.

With Susan’s dream having been such a failure, Scarlett decided to pay a visit to Owen in his dreams.

At first, it seemed like she might have made some progress. She could tell by the way he sighed and rubbed his face when he woke up that he remembered the dream.

“You OK?” asked Mandy, his wife.

“Yeah. I just had a dream about my mom.”

“I’m sorry. Was it sad?”

“Not exactly. It wasn’t happy either. She was telling me I have to make up with Susan.”

Scarlett could see Mandy’s eyes narrow as she considered her next move. Scarlett should have known Mandy would be behind all this. She knew there was a reason she had never liked her.

“That was the whole dream?”

“Yup.”

“What do you think it means?”

Owen sighed heavily. “Mom always said she’d come back to haunt us if we ever stopped talking to each other after she died.”

“You think your mom is haunting you?”

Owen shrugged, which wasn’t easy, since he was still lying in bed. “I don’t know. I don’t know if I believe in all that. Maybe it’s just my subconscious’ way of telling me I should reach out to her.”

“Why should you be the one to reach out to her after everything she’s done?”

“Because my dad made some good points about the effort she has made in the past few years.”

“She still makes mean comments about me. Now she’s writing stories like this one about me and putting them up on her website for everyone to see!”

Owen sighed again, and Scarlett could tell Mandy would get her way again. This was going to be harder than she’d thought.
