“Got it!” said Andrea, pulling out the patient’s Adam’s apple.
“It buzzed,” said Josh.
“Did not.” The game was ancient and the buzzer was now more of a low whine, but the nose still lit up and Josh knew Andrea had seen it, especially since it was right next to her hand as she knocked against the electrified board.
“You are such a liar.”
“I am not!”
“You are, too. You know the buzzer went off because even if you didn’t hear it (which I’m sure you did), you definitely saw that nose light up.”
“I would have seen the nose light up if it had lit up, but since it didn’t, I couldn’t have seen anything, could I?”
Josh wanted to scream in frustration but then a different buzzing came from his pants.
“Oh, who’s buzzing now?” Andrea waggled her eyebrows at him suggestively.
“Shut up,” he said, taking out his phone to look at the text message that had just arrived.
It was from Siobhan and it said, Hey, I was thinking I might make you dinner next weekend, but then I realized I have no idea what vegetarians eat, other than egg rolls, which I don’t know how to make. So how’s pasta? Or is that too carb heavy?
Josh wrote back, Pasta is fine as long as I use the carbs the next day, so I’ll just have to make sure to schedule a workout for the next day.
That sounds awful. I don’t want to feed you something that will make you feel like you have to torture yourself afterwards.
Josh smiled and wrote back. It’s not torture. I do this for a living, remember? I actually like working out.
You are such a weirdo.
“Who are you texting?”
“What?” Josh put his phone away too quickly to avoid looking suspicious.
Andrea’s eyes narrowed. “You had this goofy look on your face like you used to get … oh no, you aren’t getting back together with Angela, are you?”
“What? Hell no!”
Andrea leaned in, scrutinizing his face. “Are you sure?”
Josh rolled his eyes and said, “Fine, if you must know, I am seeing someone.”
Andrea gasped. “OMG, tell me everything!”
“There’s nothing to tell. We’ve only been on two dates.”
“Where to?”
“Coffee and a movie.”
“What movie?”
“Peninsula of the Dead.”
Andrea wrinkled her nose. “Your choice, I presume?”
“Yes, but she was into it. Actually, I think she was more into than I was. We went out for dinner afterwards and she ate an approximate ton of food while I could only manage to eat a few egg rolls after all that gore.”
Andrea shook her head. “My poor, sensitive baby brother.”
“I’m older than you.”
“Yeah, but you’re still my baby brother,” she said, patting him on the head.
To be continued…
