This is the third part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I and Part II before continuing.
That night, Eve crept into Adam’s bedroom and shook him awake. “Did Father let you out of the basement already?”
“I snuck out. I’m leaving to find Mother and I’m hoping you’ll come with me.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Father has been lying to us this whole time. Mother is out there somewhere because she knew there was something better than this, and I’m going to find out what happened to her. Are you coming or not?”
“How can you believe anything that was in that article? You know the internet is full of lies.”
“Is it? Or is Father the one who’s full of lies?”
“Why would Father lie to us?”
“To keep us here. To prevent us from finding out the truth about the world that’s out there. To keep us from Mother.”
“What if you never find her?”
Eve hesitated before answering this one. “I have to try.”
It wasn’t much of an answer, but it was enough for Adam because, deep down, he felt the same way. With a sigh he said, “Yes, I’m coming.”
“Good, because I’ve already packed your things.”
“What? What time is it?”
“Midnight.”
“How long ago did you escape from the basement?”
“Hours, but I had to wait until I was sure Father was asleep before I could come up here and start packing.”
Adam took one last look around the room before saying, “I guess that’s it then. Let’s go.”
The end.
