This is the ninth part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI, Part VII, and Part VIII before continuing.
Madison took her brother through the small house, starting with the bedroom, then working their way back through the hallway to the dining room, through the kitchen, and back to the living room where Madison had fallen asleep.
“Whoa, who has DVDs anymore?” Tolbert said we he saw the collection.
“I know, right? For someone who worked with the internet so much, you’d think she’d have joined the 21st century when it came to media.”
“What did she do with the internet?”
“She had a digital marketing agency.”
Tolbert just nodded, then straightened up from the crouched position he had used to examine their aunt’s DVD collection. As he stood, he faced a sliding door that led out to the back yard. “What’s that?” he said, pointing through the glass.
“What’s what?”
By way of answer, he walked over to the sliding door, unlocked and opened it, and stepped out onto the patio. “That,” he said, pointing again at the tarp that covered half of the small backyard.
“It looks like she had a swimming pool.”
“Nice! Do you think she ever used it?”
“I sure hope so. She didn’t seem like the type to have big stuff like that just for show.”
“So, you’re saying she was nothing like Mom.”
Madison smirked. “No, she certainly was not. I guess that explains why they never got along.”
“Yeah, but for Mom to hide a family member from us! To not even tell us she existed! How is that fair to us?”
“Since when has Mom ever played fair?”
Tolbert clenched his jaw before saying, “She has some serious explaining to do.”
To be continued…
