Why She Wrote

I’ve learned so much about all kinds of women writers from listening to this podcast and this graphic novel serves as a kind of highlight reel.

If Little Women or Agnes Grey is too sweet for you, I recommend Behind a Mask because it is anything but sweet!

I didn’t love this book, but I liked it, and I certainly found it interesting to see how Anne grew as a writer.

Romance, science, patriarchy, sisterhood, female friendships, money, hierarchy, aristocracy, the status quo. It’s all in Gaskell’s last novel.

I hadn’t even realized this wonderful book existed until a podcast I listen to brought it to my attention and I’m so glad they did!
