“What’s this?” Kent looked blankly at the paper Brittany had shoved in front of his face.
“A list of all the female astronauts.”
“So. You said girls couldn’t be astronauts. This proves you’re wrong.”
Kent laughed. “Not real astronauts. They probably just had desk jobs or something and called themselves astronauts. Girls can’t be astronauts the way boys can.”
“They just can’t.”
Brittany faltered for a moment. After all, how does one argue against such a statement? “Can, too. See? That one’s wearing a spacesuit and holding a helmet.”
Kent looked at Brittany as if she were simple. “It’s called a prop, Brittany. It’s. Not. Real.”
“They went into space!”
“I seriously doubt that. And even if they did, it was probably just to feed the astronauts while they were up there. I guess someone has to keep the spaceship clean.”
“Nuh uh! You have to be smart to go into space! Really smart! And strong! And those women were all of those things and I’m going to show you. Just you wait and see.”
Kent laughed at her again, then turned around and left without bothering to respond to Brittany or give her a second glance.
Brittany stood looking after him, the piece of paper she held crumpled in her fist as she shook with rage.
To be continued…
