This is the second part in a series, so if you have not already done so, you might want to read Part I before continuing.
“And who made the threat?” Officer Kahn asked as he took out a form from a drawer in his desk.
“His username is LoneRez69.”
Kahn stopped writing and looked up. “Username?”
Lilah showed him the photo, which she had already pulled up on her phone.
“You came in here about some online comment?”
Lilah was dumbfounded. After a few seconds she said. “I came in here about a death threat.”
Officer Kahn crumpled up the paper and threw it in the trash. “Listen, people say crazy shit online all the time. It doesn’t mean they actually want to kill you, much less that they have any intention of getting off their lazy asses long enough to do anything.”
“They did enough to find my home address and publish it alongside their threat. And if they’re too lazy to do anything, maybe someone else will see the comment and do something about it.”
“Yeah, that’s easy enough to do, and again, it doesn’t mean they’ll do anything about it.”
“What if they do?”
“If they do, then we can act.”
“You want to wait until after they’ve killed me before doing anything to stop them from killing me?”
“Listen, like I said, it’s probably nothing.”
“Probably isn’t good enough. They’ve made it clear they want me dead and they know where I live, but you don’t want to do anything until you find my rotting corpse.”
Officer Kahn smiled at that. He actually smiled. “Look, we’re not going to find your rotting anything. It’s just internet talk. No one means what they say online.”
To be continued…
