All Things Books
I had no idea it was Asian-Pacific Heritage Month. Fortunately, Book Riot can always be relied upon to tell me these things. That and five Asian-Pacific American authors to look out for. I haven’t read anything by any of these authors yet, but you can bet I added at least the first book to my list.
Book Riot photoshopped books in place of cell phones in various celebrity selfies, and the result is fantastic!
I, too, had a certain respect for villains growing up that I never had for the heroes. This guest post on Book Riot about seeking out the bad girls in fiction definitely spoke to me (and added more books to me reading list. What else is new?)
It’s a sad fact that female characters get much more heavily criticized than male characters. Which makes it that much more entertaining when Book Riot decides to turn the tables!
The Obama’s are going to build a library in Chicago! They do still love us!
Southwest Airlines is offering free ebooks as part of their in-flight entertainment! Of course, if you don’t finish the book before leaving, you have to buy it in order to finish reading it. But if it’s a short enough book and you have enough layovers, that shouldn’t be a problem!
If you have yet to see Peter Dinklage singing about Game of Thrones, go here and take care of that right now. Even if you have seen it, it’s worth rewatching!
This white guy wrote a great post about minorities living in danger (that sounded sarcastic, but it’s really not meant to be. Seriously, the post is awesome. Read it).
This is an excellent post directed at writers, saying that none of us really know what we’re doing. Despite being aimed at authors, it really applies to life in general.
More life advice from another writer: don’t get good at what you hate. If you make lots of money doing something you can’t stand doing, you’ll still be miserable.
The Onion Nails It
Who knew removing distractions would mean kids performing better in school? As usual, the Onion has some choice responses.
This Onion article about how we choose our children’s toys is frighteningly accurate. Whatever happened to just letting kids be kids?
Gamergate is still active and scary and the police are doing diddly shit about it, which is even scarier.
Certain types of emotions are more likely to stay with us longer than others. Or at least we remember them sticking around longer.
Maybe it’s just because I’m a nerd, but I found this post about why people stopped saying “thee” and “thou” to be fascinating. Although it doesn’t explain why other European languages haven’t resorted to one form of “you”.
What about you guys? What were some of your favorite things to happen on the Internet? How many “favorite” lists do you think Peter Dinklage made?
