Hello, and welcome to Marketing Monday, where I give you tips and tricks for being your own content marketer. This week’s post is all about how working with you gives your clients the luck of the Irish!
With St. Patrick’s Day coming up this weekend, there’s bound to be lots of talk about the luck of the Irish, so I thought I would take this opportunity to talk about how working with you gives your clients the luck of the Irish!
Is it what you add to their home? Their business? Their vacations? Do you help them with their ability to go on vacation in the first place? Or retire? Do you make their lives easier? More fun? More productive?
If you don’t already know what makes you so great to work with, you need to start thinking about it and looking for ways to include it in your content strategy. Marketing isn’t just about demonstrating value, it’s about why your ideal client should want to work with you, rather than anyone else. I know we’ve all heard by now that we need to focus on our unique offerings, but it can be easy to forget about that in the daily rush of serving our clients or trying to land that new client. It’s also easy to forget what makes us unique, especially in an industry like content marketing, where there’s so much competition (but also a huge demand). It’s always good to remember to stop every once in a while and really think about what it is we do that makes us special.
Sometimes the easiest solution is just to ask your current clients what it is they like about working with you. Testimonials are a great way to do this. I’ve sung the praises of testimonials before as free content marketing, and I’ll do it again. You can spend all day and all night promoting yourself, but people will still want to know what other people think of working with you before they reach out or click that “Buy” button. I know the testimonials I’ve gotten from my clients not only make me feel good, but also help clarify for me what it is they love about working with me. I’ve even had a few tell me that they feel lucky to have found me.
Beyond the Testimonial
Sometimes clients praise you just in normal conversation without writing a formal testimonial and you should never be afraid to use that in your content marketing as well (and if they haven’t given you a testimonial, strike while the iron is hot and ask them for one). I’ve gotten some lovely praises from my clients in emails and while talking on the phone with them. I don’t make it into a testimonial, but I do post about it on social media right away. I don’t mention them by name, I just say something like, “Love it when my clients tell me how easy I am to work with!” It’s effective marketing, not only because it showcases your abilities, but because people respond well to positive statements.
What Makes You Lucky?
Finally, don’t forget to turn it around and remember what makes you so lucky to do what you do. I wrote a post a couple months ago about how lucky I am to have such great clients. If you love working with your clients as much as I love working with mine, don’t forget to tell them so because they’ll be sure to reciprocate.
