Welcome to Marketing Monday, where I give you tips and tricks for being your own content marketer. This week’s post is all about making you think about how you can bring new life to your marketing efforts?
While it’s theoretically spring, it sure doesn’t feel like it here in Chicago. As I write this, it’s cold and rainy, and the forecast for tonight is for it to get so cold that the rain will turn into snow – and the rain already on the ground is likely to freeze over into black ice. Fun!
That said, those of us who celebrate Easter did so a little over a week ago and not long before that was the spring Equinox, when most people celebrate the beginning of spring, no matter how cold it is.
I’ve always loved Easter. It’s always been a time for my family to gather together and stuff our faces at a big buffet brunch. That combined with all the peeps and chocolate bunnies and what’s not to like?
I’ve also loved it as a celebration of spring. We women tend to put away our dark dresses, sweaters and stockings and we finally get to pull out the floral summer dresses and sandals (in theory, at least). Easter has always been a time of symbolic renewal as the grass starts to grow back in and the trees start to bud, slowly transforming our barren landscape into one of glorious spring beauty.
So it got me thinking: with all this celebration of renewal, what can I do to bring new life to my business?
This isn’t something I’ve been thinking about for just the past few weeks. Ever since the beginning of the year I’ve been thinking about what I want to do differently in my business this year. How can I be more strategic in my own marketing efforts?
Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities for me to be more strategic – so many that I’m trying to take them one at a time in order to avoid feeling overwhelmed with all the information. There are keyword finders, social media management tools that also help you measure the effectiveness of your campaign, and MailChimp has been adding ever more services to their offerings to help us get the most out of our email marketing campaigns.
Even most social media sites will tell you how many people you’ve reached over the last few days, and if you do any Facebook ads or boosted posts, they’ll automatically provide you with all those stats.
Never Stop Evaluating and Improving
As excited as I am to learn all about who wants to see my content and why, I know this is going to be an ongoing process. Online search engines and social media sites are constantly changing their algorithms, which means doing the same thing day after day will lead to oblivion while those who stay up to date on all the changes will continue to grow their following.
There’s one thing that probably won’t ever change and that’s consistently creating quality content. Not only does that help you rank with Google, but it will prompt your readers/viewers to keep coming back to get the latest updates in your industry. All the keyword and social media tricks in the world can’t help you to get readers coming back if you don’t create great content.
That’s all for this week! If you like what you see here, you can sign up for my newsletter at the top of this page to make sure you never miss an update.
