Our world is becoming increasingly digital, and trade shows are no exception. Even when you meet people face-to-face, chances are you’ll want to stay in touch with them after the event and your app is going to be a key resource for achieving that goal.
So how do you get people to download and use your app?
There are a number of things you can do before, during, and after the event to promote your app. Nothing is more effective than personal contact so most of your downloads will likely be during the event. There are a number of ways you can optimize this opportunity.
First, you need to be sure to include the 3 essentials in all your marketing material:
1) Screenshots: A screenshot of the app that’s meant to grab your attendees’ attention.
2) QR Code: This is the fastest method for attendees to download the app, and anytime you want your audience to do something, you need to make it as easy as possible.
3) Download Language: This is language that highlights useful features of the app and provides attendees with instructions on how to download the app. It can be written, but you can also choose to include a video about the app.
The 3 essentials should be included in everything you use to promote the app, including cards, flyers, posters, banners, and presentations. These are all things you’ll have to plan for before the event, but they’ll increase your downloads during the event.
Most events have registration packets that get handed out to all the attendees. By printing out a small flyer with the 3 essentials of your app, you can get hundreds, or even thousands of downloads.
All of your staff at the event can wear stickers or buttons with the app’s QR code. You should be sure to have trained your event staff on promoting the app at the event, so they can talk about it knowledgably and answer any questions your attendees might have. The training and the stickers/buttons will have to be done ahead of time, but proper use of these resources during the event will encourage people to download your app during the event.
By having them wear QR codes (in a visible, easily accessible place that doesn’t cause any awkwardness), you’re more likely to increase the number of downloads.
Presentations offer an excellent opportunity to promote your app. You can include the 3 essentials in one of the first slides and have your presenter talk about the app a little bit. The people who show up for your presentation are already interested in hearing what you have to say, so they’re the most likely to download your app.
Obviously, some of these things will need to be taken care of weeks, or even months before the event. Designing and printing all those signs will need to be done ahead of time, but the best time to put them to use is during the event.
